Alone in his South Beach hotel room, a single room service tray sitting on the desk, a comedy flick he can no longer remember showing on the television Hamlin brooded over the days lose.How easy is it to recover loosing the title to Johnson in the final race of last season.It was the fifth straight year Johnson had celebrated a title in South Florida. The four previous years Hamlin had trudged over to Johnson’s party, bought him a bottle of Dom or Ace of Spades champagne, offered him a toast.Johnson is in his head now and that's not good his career maybe mediocre from now on Johnson is not going to get worse so he has to improve.With new rules and a new season Daytona is bigger for Hamlin than anyone he must bury last years disappointment early in the season,and this is the perfect place to start,if he could win here its possible he will never look back,if not he looking up at Johnson all season or Harvick or even Busch.
Recalling the exchange as he stood outside his motor home in the Daytona sun, on the eve of another season, another chance, Hamlin looked like a guy who is tired of congratulating Jimmie Johnson.
